The Tottenham Hotspur confirmed that Dane Scarlett has joined League One side Portsmouth on loan for the 2022/23 season.

Scarlett has an excellent record with England as a youngster and was part of the Young Lions successful campaign at the U19 Euros. He has scored 12 goals in 14 games for England U19s.

The young forward has also turned heads at Tottenham and been given 10 appearances across the past two seasons. Antonio Conte thinks the forward has a “brilliant future” and former manager Jose Mourinho predicts he would be “phenomenal” for England in the future.

The 18-year-old had interest from clubs in the Championship and abroad, but is heading to Fratton Park for his first spell away from Spurs.

Portsmouth would be his first loan. Although this club has dropped to League One from the heyday of Premier League and FA Cup wins ten years ago, it’s still a massive south coast club, one of the biggest in the region, with an incredible supporter base. It’s a big opportunity for Dane to show his worth there.

Will Dane be in the first team plan next season after successfully loaned? Unlikely. The 18-year-old is most likely to get more than one shot in the Championship.

Portsmouth boss Danny Cowley talked about the signing: ‘We’re delighted to have Dane with us, and we’re really appreciative of Tottenham for trusting us to look after one of their young players.
He spent the whole of last season with the first team and featured in some of their European fixtures, training every day with world-class players.
‘He’s a boy who has the world at his feet and comes here after a brilliant summer with England, playing a big part in that success.
‘There’s intelligence beyond his years – both in and out of possession – with the timing of his runs and the movement that allows him to win space behind defenders.
