Chelsea propose swap deal to sign Tottenham Hotspur target Zaniolo

Sources claimed that Chelsea plan to offer Christian Pulisic to AS Roma in a swap deal for top Tottenham target Nicolo Zaniolo.

The Italy international has also been linked to Newcastle this summer, but Spurs have been most heavily linked, with manager Antonio Conte and director Fabio Paratici both said to be big admirers. The North London have tried to sign him but has once been rejected by the Italian side. Now, Chelsea are looking to blow Spurs out of the water with this sensational player-swap deal for Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

The American international’s Chelsea career has been an up and down spiral. Pulisic started just 13 Premier League games throughout the course of the season. With the Blues signing Raheem Sterling in the summer, the competition to play in the wide attacking areas has further increased.

Zaniolo can play across the front-line with ease, and can also be deployed as a number 10 or an attacking central midfielder. The Italian international scored 8 goals and 9 assists in all 42 appearances.

Therefore, it won’t be a bad idea for Chelsea to directly replace Pulisic with Zaniolo. For Spurs, Pulisic can play as a right-winger, just like the Italian, and is of a strong age profile as well. This would pose a serious threat to their hopes of signing Zaniolo. To be honest, Tottenham don’t really need another attacker, as three top strikers-Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, and Dejan Kulusevski in the squad.

However, Zaniolo is young and can be an able successor to the likes of Son and even Kane if they will leave the club in the future. Besides, he would add incredible depth to this team. He is also a player Conte would have seen for himself during their time in Serie A.

Now, Chelsea and Tottenham have shown great interest in the Italian. It remains to be seen which team Zaniolo will join.
