Tottenham have confirmed the signing of Destiny Udogie from Udinese, but he has been immediately loaned back to his old club. The 19-year-old becomes the club’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window. According to the report, Udogie has signed a five-year deal with a transfer fee of €20m plus escalators, and as part of the agreement was immediately loaned back to Udinese for the duration of the 2022-23 season.

The defender caught Tottenham’s eye after an impressive campaign in which he made 37 appearances in all competitions and scored five times. However, he sat out their opener with AC Milan on Saturday, stayed at Hotspur Way on Sunday before he completed a medical on Monday and finalized his transfer a day later.

Udogie is a young player, but he has made great progress in his first full season of Serie A last year. Whatever, this is a reliable signing for the future. Spurs have nearly locked down the replacement for the left wing back-Ivan Perisic, although they just signed the Croatian on a free transfer this summer. Udogie will spend the season at Udinese where he will continue to get game time and improvement in his home country of Italy. And if all goes well, he can get involved in Tottenham’s first team next season and become an essential part of the team.
