Tottenham Hotspur confirmed they have reached an agreement to send Ndombele to Napoli on loan for the season.

The latest report suggested that Spurs would receive a €1m loan fee, but Napoli would pay the majority of Ndombele’s weekly wages. If they choose to make a permanent move, Napoli will pay £25m transfer fee.

The France midfielder joined Spurs in 2019 from French outfit Lyon, where he spent the second half of 2021/22 campaign on loan. The 25-year-old made 11 appearances in Ligue 1, registering two assists, but didn’t make the impression he would’ve liked. In that period, Ndombele has made 91 appearances for Spurs and there is no denying his ability.

However, it just hasn’t worked out well for Ndombele and it would be even harder for him to get regular game time now, with Conte’s organized structure implemented and the new arrivals in place.

Ndombele’s loan move makes the midfielder the fourth senior player to leave Spurs in the current transfer window, following the exits of Steven Bergwijn, Giovani Lo Celso and Joe Rodon.

Napoli started their Serie A campaign with a 5-2 win over Hellas Verona with a number of additions reinforcing their squad. Now Ndombele becomes the eighth signing of the window.

The French international has been linked to various teams abroad, but Italy will now be his next destination. On Thursday, Ndombele was pictured arriving in Naples ahead of his medical at Napoli, with fans surrounding him for pictures.
