Tottenham Hotspur Harry Winks joins Sampdoria on loan

Tottenham Hotspur officially announced that Harry Winks has joined Sampdoria on loan for the season.

The 26-year-old’s move comes several hours after Sergio Reguilon completed a similar move to Atletico Madrid.

Both Winks and Reguilon were surplus to requirements under Antonio Conte at Spurs. Earlier this summer, they were on the transfer list and sent to get trained away from the first-team squad, together with Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso, who have been loaned to Napoli and Villarreal respectively.

Winks is a product of the Tottenham Hotspur youth system and has received 10 caps for the England national team. The England international has previously expressed his love for his childhood club, but he wants to get regular game time, which is hard to be offered by Spurs, especially following the signing of Yves Bissouma from Brighton this summer. Therefore, it is a wise choice to move to the Serie A side for more playing time.

Winks has already made 203 senior appearances for the club, scoring 5 goals, and may have benefitted from a move to a Premier League club. There will be hope that he has had a successful time away before returning to N17.

He is the third senior midfielder to leave Spurs on loan this season, following Giovani Lo Celso joining Villarreal and Tanguy Ndombele joining Napoli on loan deals earlier this summer as well.
