Tottenham Hotspur table a bid to Barcelona for Memphis Depay

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly tabled a £14 million bid for Memphis Depay. Memphis Depay has one year left in his current deal. Whether that entices Barca into selling him remains to be seen.

Memphis Depay moved to Barcelona on a free transfer last summer. Depay finished his first season with Barcelona as the team’s leading scorer, totally 13 goals in 37 games. However, he had a wildly inconsistent season at Camp Nou after a promising start, especially failing to perform well in the UEFA Champions League.

It’s reported that Memphis Depay will snub a move to Tottenham in favour of staying at Barcelona. Besides, the 28-year-old has made it clear that he intends to stay at Camp Nou after the summer transfer market closes. If he signs, the 28-year-old will also encounter huge competition for a starting position at Spurs. Harry Kane and Son Heung-min are already two of the top forwards for the North London team. Richarlison, Ivan Perisic, and Dejan Kulusevski were all added to the team under Conte.

Depay wants to stay at Barcelona, but only if he is playing regularly.

And with the arrivals of Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha expected this summer, a place in the starting XI will be even harder to come by—and Spur believed they could use this to their advantage.

Spurs have already taken one player off of Barcelona’s hands with the loan acquisition of defender Clement Lenglet.

They have also brought in Yves Bissouma and Richarlison for a combined £85m, with Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster joining on free transfers.

Antonio Conte already has England captain Harry Kane and last season’s golden boot winner Son Hueng-Min, as well as Dejan Kulusevski, Lucas Moura and new arrival Richarlison.

The Kane-Son-Kulusevski combo netted Spurs 61 goal contributions in the Premier League last season.
